Interventional Radiology

 Interventional Radiology Department

The Interventional Radiology Department of Mehr Hospital, under the supervision of Dr. Hamidreza Haghighatkhah, was established to provide advanced diagnostic and therapeutic services using minimally invasive techniques.

Diseases Treatable with Interventional Radiology:

🔹 Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) treatment through embolization without surgery

🔹 Knee osteoarthritis treatment without surgery

🔹 Acute and chronic deep vein thrombosis (DVT)

🔹 Various cancers (liver, kidney, bone, and lung cancers)

🔹 Vascular complications related to dialysis

🔹 Women's health conditions such as uterine fibroids and pelvic congestion syndrome

The Future of Minimally Invasive Medical Care:

Interventional radiology is one of the most advanced fields of modern medicine. By using state-of-the-art imaging technologies, it enables complex treatments without the need for open surgery. These procedures reduce surgical risks, eliminate the need for large incisions, and are usually performed under local anesthesia or sedation.

What are the features, services, treatment methods, and benefits provided in the Interventional Radiology Department?

    • It is a specialized branch of medicine that uses advanced imaging techniques (such as X-ray, CT scan, and ultrasound) to diagnose and treat diseases at early stages. Physicians in this field use specialized needles, catheters, guidewires, and advanced instruments to perform complex treatments through a small skin incision without the need for open surgery. In many cases, these minimally invasive procedures can replace traditional surgery and reduce the need for hospitalization.
    • Biopsy of suspicious cancerous lesions (liver, kidney, and prostate biopsies) under ultrasound and CT guidance
    • Minimally invasive treatment of cancerous lesions using techniques such as ablation
    • Placement of peritoneal and pleural catheters
    • Placement of nephrostomy catheters and ureteral stents
    • Peripheral angiography
    • Biliary catheter placement and biliary stenting
    • Embolization of vascular lesions for bleeding control and treatment of vascular diseases
  • Stereotactic mammography (introduction of stereotactic mammography system and biopsy procedures)
  • Vacuum-assisted biopsy (breast lesion biopsy and removal)
  • Microwave ablation of tumor lesions, including kidney, liver, and lung tumors, using microwave technology

Treatment of osteoid osteoma (bone tumors) using RF (Radiofrequency ablation)

  • Angiography: Evaluation of blood vessels to identify stenosis, blockages, or other vascular abnormalities
  • Angioplasty: Opening blocked blood vessels using balloons and stents
  • Embolization: Blocking blood vessels to control bleeding or treat certain vascular lesions (including uterine fibroids, benign prostatic hyperplasia, and knee osteoarthritis without surgery)
  • Needle biopsy (tissue sampling): Precise sampling of body tissues under imaging guidance for diagnosis of cancer and other diseases
  • IVC filter placement: Insertion of a filter into the inferior vena cava to prevent blood clots from traveling to the lungs
  • Catheter placement: Insertion of specialized tubes for chemotherapy administration, nutritional support, and dialysis
  • Interventional cancer treatment: Direct delivery of anticancer drugs to the tumor site to improve treatment effectiveness, or minimally invasive tumor destruction using ablation techniques
  • کارگذاری استنت: قرار دادن یک مش فلزی ظریف در داخل رگ برای باز نگه داشتن مسیر جریان خون
  • Reduced need for open surgery
  • Shorter recovery period compared to traditional methods
  • Lower costs compared to complex surgical procedures
  • Reduced complications and faster patient recovery
