The Nuclear Medicine Center of Mehr Hospital was established in 2008, utilizing the best available facilities and equipment to provide healthcare services to patients. The main goal of this center is to deliver nuclear medicine services using up-to-date devices and advanced techniques by experienced and committed physicians and staff.



Nuclear Medicine is a specialized field of medicine that uses radioactive materials, known as radiopharmaceuticals, for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases through:

2- Laboratory tests

What services are provided in the Nuclear Medicine Department?

  • Cardiac perfusion scan (MIBI/Thallium) for evaluation of ischemia, myocardial infarction, and myocardial viability
  • Whole body bone scan for evaluation of bone metastasis, primary bone tumors, osteomyelitis, osteonecrosis, occult bone fractures, sports medicine conditions, and metabolic bone diseases such as hyperparathyroidism and renal osteodystrophy
  • Lung perfusion scan for evaluation of pulmonary embolism and quantitative assessment
  • Renal scans for evaluation of perfusion, function, urinary tract obstruction using Lasix, urinary reflux, glomerular filtration rate (GFR), renovascular hypertension, and evaluation of transplanted kidneys for ATN and rejection
  • Static renal scan using DMSA radiopharmaceutical for evaluation of pyelonephritis, renal scarring, functional renal tissue, and ectopic kidney
  • Thyroid scan for evaluation of thyroid nodule function, suppressed TSH in euthyroid patients with thyroid nodules, and assessment of nodules in multinodular goiter
  • Parathyroid scan in patients with hyperparathyroidism
  • Hepatobiliary scan for evaluation of cholecystitis, bile leakage after cholecystectomy, and biliary atresia
  • Liver and spleen scan for evaluation of liver function (cirrhosis, etc.), space-occupying lesions of the liver or spleen, and accessory spleen
  • RBC scan for diagnosis of hepatic hemangioma and gastrointestinal bleeding
  • Gastric emptying scan for evaluation of diabetic gastroparesis
  • Meckel's diverticulum scan
  • Whole body scan with MIBI or Thallium for detection of tumors and metastases
  • Lacrimal duct scan for evaluation of narrowing or obstruction of tear ducts (Dacryoscintigraphy)
  • Lymphoscintigraphy in breast cancer, melanoma, and evaluation of lymphedema
  • Salivary gland scan for evaluation of cysts, tumors such as Warthin tumor, infections, inflammatory lesions, and Sjögren's syndrome
  • Somatostatin receptor imaging (Octreotide scan) for evaluation of neuroendocrine tumors and medullary carcinoma
